How to make a Valheim server: a dedicated server for your Viking crew
In-game, one player can open their world to others, but then it only works while the host is online. A dedicated server keeps running even when none of you are playing.

Why a dedicated server?
- The world keeps running even when the “host” isn't playing. Everyone can join whenever they like.
- Less lag: when hosting in-game the host's PC computes everything as well, with a server a separate machine does it.
- The world is safe on the server, with backups.
How much RAM?
For a normal group 4 GB is enough. With big builds, many players or mods, 6 to 8 GB is worth it.
Step by step at Navoryx
- Order a Valheim server. We set a random password, which you see and can change in the Panel under
StartupatServer Password. - Start the server. The first start takes a few minutes until the world is generated.
- In Valheim:
Start game→ choose a character →Join game→Add serverand enter the address with port.
The password must be 5 to 20 characters long and must not appear in the server name, otherwise the server won't start.
Crossplay with Xbox and Game Pass
With the Enable Crossplay setting, players with the Xbox or Game Pass version can join too. The join code then shows up in the console.
